During my time teaching for the School of Education and as Director of the Center for Transformational Learning, I have used various digital tools to enhance participant engagement and learning. Storify is an online open platform that allows the user to create a story of information with ease. The ability to embed multi-modal content by dragging and dropping allows even the novice a way to create interactive and up to date aggregation of content.

Flipped Instruction Learning Session (2012) CTL (139 views)

This presentation was created to introduce the idea of Flipped instruction to Faculty. The aggregation of content was intentionally curated to evoke comment and discussion about the topic. My intent was to create a learning artifact that would engage participants in ways to enhance course material presentation.

Children's Literature Course (2012) SOE (104 views)

This artifact was created as a portion of the Children's Literature course last spring. Students were introduced to the set up of the storify and assigned the element as an out of class task. There were sub-tasks to complete within the Storify presentation. This was an example of flipped instruction. Next, students were to come to class ready to review the vlog by John Green so that we could deconstruct the components of effective communication and discussion within a book study. I highlighted the elements as they appeared within the video and stopped the movie for discussion, clarification, and questions. This was an example of using flipped material to enhance direct instruction.

Prezi is a newer presentation tool that provides templates as well as embeds video and audio selections into presentation. The ability to zoom in on essential information and zoom out to give an overall view of the topic is one of the enhancements of this product. I used this when creating a presentation for the SOE Advisory Board meeting. The topic was unveiling the new Technology Strand I created that launches 2013.
