Associate Professor of Professional Studies and Senior Instructional Systems Designer, Avila University

July 2014 - Present

On July 1, 2014, Dr. Eaton stepped down from the Associate VP of Instructional Resources to accept a half-time faculty appointment  and  in order to focus on instructional design services for faculty using educational technology. In collaboration with Information Services and the Center for Transformational Learning, he is developing recommended practices for improving student learning with technology. He also sponsors the Academic Council for Instructional Resources and manages an IT cross-team committee focused on instructional technology.

June 2010 – June 2014 (4 years)

In June 2010, Eaton joined the university to evaluate web 2.0 technologies and design pedagogical approaches for applications in campus, blended, and online course formats across the curriculum (undergraduate, graduate, and professional services courses). Dr. Eaton also assisted the VP of Information Services with the management of the IT help-desk and end-user support.

Acting Dean of Engineering and Computer Science, Grantham University

July 2008 – February 2010 (1 year 8 months)

Ended tenure at Grantham University as Dean of the College of Engineering & Computer Science. Evaluated, analyzed, and conducted comprehensive program reviews of the Electronics & Computer Engineering program and the Engineering Management Technology program. Identified program improvements in curriculum, faculty assignments, student retention rates, and graduation rates. Provided the University with a roadmap on needed improvements within the programs. Prior position was Dean of Curriculum Development, Academic Technology, and Services. Managed migration of 200+ courses from legacy LMS to ANGEL; added substantive interaction to curriculum design in preparation of HLC. Managed student appeals and other services in support of student progress and student services.

October 2007 – May 2008 (8 months)

First Director for the Crown Advanced Learning Center. Worked on strategy to grow a corporate university out of a basic training function with certifications, continuing education, and client learning services.

Director, Cerner Corporation

1998 – 2007 (9 years)

During nine years at Cerner Corporation went from a Multimedia Architect to Director of Associate Education. Held an IT position for one year. Within the corporate university led various teams in associate education, client learning services, learning delivery, and learning management.

Officer, United States Air Force

July 1970 – September 1994 (24 years 3 months)

24 year military service in communications and intelligence. During service, managed implementation and maintenance teams for avionics, reconnaissance, telecommunications, and command & control systems.
